Reduce Compaction
Lawn Aeration Service for Kentuckiana Lawns
Aerating your lawn is an important step in your quest for that head turning lawn. It is especially important for the compacted clay soil found in Southern Indiana. The clay soils found in Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana are not ideal for water drainage and root growth. This problem arises a lot in subdivisions where all the topsoil has been stripped during the site development stage.
Lucky for you, our core aeration services can help alleviate soil compaction, improve soil structure and increase water penetration. If you want to transform your lawn, call Lex Lawn & Irrigation to schedule a lawn aeration.

What is Aeration
Lawn aeration, or core aeration, is the process of removing small plugs of soil from your lawn. Think of how you core an apple with an apple coring tool. Aerating your lawn is the same process. Our aerators pull a 1 inch wide by 4 inch long plug of soil from your yard. Once the core is removed, you are left with a hole in the soil, just like the hole left in an apple.
The plugs of soil that get pulled out will be left on your lawn and that’s a good thing. They’ll break down naturally over the next couple of weeks and return nutrients right back into your yard. It’s one of those rare times where a little mess is actually part of the solution.
Aerating your lawn is great, but if you wanted to really give your lawn a boost, we can over seed and power seed at the time of aeration and really make your lawn pop.
Benefits of Aeration
Promote Root Growth
You may ask yourself, how is a bunch of holes in my yard going to help it grow? When you aerate your lawn, you’re giving it room to breathe. Literally.
After aeration, those little holes left behind become the perfect channels for everything your lawn needs. Water can seep deeper, fertilizer can actually reach the roots, and oxygen circulates through the soil. It may not look like much at first glance, but those holes do a lot of work behind the scenes.
To get a mental image of what compacted soil is, think about a yard that has a dog path worn in it from the dog running in the same spot day after day. That path is bare because of soil compaction. Solve your soil compaction issue and spread some seed to give your yard new life.
